World Coffee Research launches new breeding tools initiative

World Coffee Research (WCR) has announced a US$1.5 million initiative to modernise coffee breeding through the development of high-precision tools, aiming to make breeding faster, better, and cheaper.
WCR says the project “supercharges” global breeding pipelines by replacing slow, observational methods with data-driven precision.
The initiative is supported by a grant from the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) and matched by industry co-investment from coffee supplier Taylors of Harrogate, Coffee Circle, and other WCR member companies.
