Innovea breeding trials come to life around the world
New genetics have installed in the field in seven countries
Six partner countries have now successfully installed the first Innovea Global Arabica Breeding Network tree populations in their research fields. This represents a huge step forward for the Innovea collaborative network. These materials are the foundation for participating countries to develop new varieties that are market-tailored to meet future production challenges like climate change and the preservation of origin diversity.
Two additional partner country sites will be planted later in 2025. Performance and genetic data on every individual tree planted across the network (5,000 in total) will be collected and aggregated over the coming six years to determine which trees are selected for variety release and further breeding. These trees contain a diversity of high-performing genetics never available to countries before now. Innovea is a global, collaborative effort bringing together 9 partner countries to accelerate the rate of genetic improvement and transform the future of coffee.

By the end of 2024, six Innovea partner countries had installed trials.
